2 CAN MOFO !
On to my 11th brew I think, It's been a hazy adventure so far. Anyway thought I'd try a 2 can special, will let you know how it turns out. ( I'm sure this recipes been done before, but anyway)
2 X Can Coopers Dark Ale 1.7Kg
2 Kg Dextrose
2 X Kit Yeast
into 23 Litres
P.S: If the top bit doesn't make sense it's because I've been sampling my Brewcraft Belgian Ale .

Well that should be an interesting brew. Technically a wine barley wine i think because the brewcraft calculator says that should be around 10.3% !!!!!
Even without the dextrose that will be up to 5% easy. Im not familiar with these things but I believe you need a more hardcore yeast than what comes in the kit to produce something that potent.
But hey go nuts, tell me how it works out because I might I wouldn't mind a few of those myself tonight.

I agree, not to many kit yeasts if any would handle that. Im guessing that he has basically doubled everything except the water volume, the point of doing a 2 can as far as i know ( ive never done one and dont quite see the point) was so you didnt need to add extra fermentablesatropine wrote:The kit yeast will die on you, and you'll have incomplete fermentation. I don't see the point of adding the dextrose.

Hi lethal,
Most 2 can brews I have done have been far superior to my can & kilo efforts. Actually, I use one can in a MS fermenter to a vol of 11.5L. So you could say I do half size 2 can brews.
I often use Safale yeasts (1 X 11.5g per brew), or two kit yeasts per brew.
Both methods produce good results. Got to sort out my recipe/results sheets before drawing any firm conclusions on best yeasts to use.
That's just my take on 2 can brews. Others will have different opinions.

If it works for you then by all means, i just personally have never felt the urge to do a two can and i have heard mixed reports on the results, some tend to lean towards the fact that they are a little to bitter and others say they are to sweet, so take your pick i guess
I may have to try one soon just to satisfy my own curiosity and simply because i never have but i suppose its not really all that different from the extracts ive been making except for the fact that i have more control over the end result ( hop rates etc)
Cheers
Leigh

Was overall very nice, a rich smooth taste with a heap of little hints of coffee, licquorice etc. Just one on a cold night is good, but is by no stretch of the imagination a session beer.
A few things I'd do differently next time - I'd lose the dex, really concentrate on oxygenating the wort, and use a blow off tube - this thing krausened itself across the room. possibly switch the Lager for Aus Pale.
I picked up the idea from the Coopers Club Forum.
Cheers,
Greg

Have found it depends upon which type of tin(s) used. And also which types of yeast I use.
Coopers Bitter could be a bit over the top, hence my using approx 1.5kg to 11.5L in my first experiment. Result was excellent, as reported on another string, so will try 1.6kg during the week to observe the difference. May be an improvement, but by the same token it may prove to be a backward step. Will report in due course, but that will be about two months down the track, as that is my time lag between bottling and tasting.
That's just me. And also the reason why my progress through the HB experience is somewhat on the slow side. At the same time, I'm experiencing considerable enjoyment, and also considerable savings doing it this way as opposed to drinking commercial offerings.

I done many 2 can Coopers Dark Ale. 250 gm choc malt 50 gm roast barley, Williamette and Fuggles hops. 2 x safale (?? cant recall which one need to refer to notes) One of my finest IMHO. Lovely choc hit with burnt toffee aftertaste.
Once I dropped 500 gms of dex in as well. No one liked that beer as it was just too alcoholic for the average punter.

Hey gregb,
How much water did you put in your three can brew? I recently did a three can brew also, three cans of Coopers origional lager and a kilo of Coopers BE1, mixed to 46L and added the three kit yeasts. It was for my son, and he reckoned it was the best beer he had tasted, I tried it and wouldn't say that, I am a bitter man myself, but it was OK, it was too young in my opinion, but he cleaned it all up before it had a chance to age. I have since done another but I am keeping some back to age a bit, since the quack cut my grog intake back, I seem to be able to get my brews out to four months and it is bloody well worth it if you can, about the only bad one I get these days is the odd bottle that may not have been as clean as it should. Considering that I only do kits, four months in my air conditioned, custom built brew room, they take a bit of stacking for a beer, in my opinion anyway...........and that I believe is one of the most important things in home brewing !

Just out of curiosity, how did that turn out? I put down a Brewcraft Belgian Ale a couple of months ago and am yet to crack one. Afraid to I think.ShizzleAlcohizzle wrote: P.S: If the top bit doesn't make sense it's because I've been sampling my Brewcraft Belgian Ale .
