Hi,
if you are making a K&K, then use a good base pale ale kit, something like Coopers Pale Ale, 1kg LDME, 200g caramalt, boil some amerillo hops 20g for 15minutes, another 20g for last minute.
If you rack taste during racking and perhaps add another 20g amerillo or cascade dry hopped, depending upon your taste.
I haven't made this recipe but should be somewhere close.

There's nothing wrong with having nothing to say - unless you insist on saying it. (Anonymous)
ive just kegged one which seems to be close but im sure there may be better. I used
1.5 kgs coopers wheat malt
1.5 kgs morgans unhopped pale malt
27grm amerillo 60min
10 grm northern brewer 15 min
10 grm amerillo 2 min
5 grm amerillo dry hop
white yeast 001 californian ale yeast
Hope this works i wont know for a few weeks but it seems close to the ball

Looks like a good place to start AC.
I'd probably halve the 15min addition & add 10g to the 1min addition.

ok, silly question time....
What is caramalt and can I get it at the home brew shop
Caramalt is a kind of malted grain that is available from the homebrew shop.
Caramalt is the lightest possible colour crystal malt and carries a soft Toffee Caramel flavour and aroma. Caramalt is ideal for the creation of Amber Ales and light beers, where you may desire a subtle caramel flavour. (from here)
james squire amber ale? dont no if this is the one u want but here it is anyway?
muntons premium blonde
amber malt extract ( i use black rock) 1.5 kg
dry corn syrup 250 g
finishing hops golden cluster 5g pellets
safale yeast
final volume 22 litres
try this one on for size dj and hope it helps you out!!
It's funny, I find the amber ale a little sweet for drinking now when it previously used to be one of my favourites.
I'm a fan of the Golden Ale now. I find it similar to the Mountain Goat Hightail ale for some reason. I hope to make a decent clone of either one of those beers sometime in the future!
I put down recipe as suggested above, my brew is now bottled for 3 weeks. Here is what I did:
1 x Coopers pale ale kit
1kg LDME
200g JW caramalt 30min steep
boil amerillo 10g for 8 min
add another 15g at flame off steep for 15 min
23L batch
SafAle S-04
3 day primary~21C
4 day secondary
dry hopped 20g amerillo
bulk prime 146g Dextrose
FG1010
This is my 6th batch and is the best so far. I drink it side by side with JS golden ale and here is some comment to get closer to the original:
-need some cascade
-need more sweet
-need more colour and nutty flavour, maybe change 1kg LDME to 1.5kg Amber malt tin
-too much amerillo
-this clone is more bitter than the original
Maybe a little bit of crystal? Also, i think your bitterness may be a bit on the low side for a clone, but why clone when you can make a better beer like you have done!
