bluetongue ginger beer

Post by yardglass »

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Mrs G is partial to a gb (alc) so grabbed 1 for her to sample and maybe attempt a copy if she approved.

Another example of flash marketing and packaging, all show and no go.

It's pushed as an Alcoholic Ginger Beer, when in truth it's a very piss poor excuse for a beer with ginger flavouring.

The sell on their website goes something like...
Made from a 300 yr old recipe... 300 yr old bucket of stale piss more like..

Later on it's claiming to be a unique lager..
Next thing it's a unique ginger beer..

Make up your bloody minds.

Another quote.. "It appeals to the young or those looking for something different"..

For "young", Read..

someone too bloody stupid and naive to know crap when they see it..

" or those looking for something different"

"something different" other than oj to mix with metho, would be my call.

Visit the site and have a go at the four directors, years of brewing experience there.. ( bluetongue brewery )

Perhaps Lion Nathan should buy up this pathetic lot, they certainly couldn't make it any worse.

sorry about the rant

Can't vouch for the Lager. Not available in Bottlo or Local.

Can vouch for the Lager.

Inoffensive but totally forgettable. Not deserving of the 'Premium' tag.
Overall, not worth the price tag, and I've no wish to support that bunch of tossers.

Yardie, the rant is cool. Just indicates the depths of your sincerity.

Cheers,
Greg

Agree with the diagnosis on both the "premium" lager and ginger beer.

However I wouldn't write the brewery off entirely. Every season they produce a "seasonal brew" that they sell on tap at the Queens Wharf Brewery in Newcastle and these beers range from pretty good to fantastic.

Don't know why they haven't bottled some of these seasonals as I would probably buy a carton, but $60+ for the lager is a bit much

the crackenback ale they produce for the snowy mountains brewery is not too bad either.. nothing flash but a nice clean ale.

I agree on the ginger beer - rubbish IMO

completely agree yardy

i used to work for them on the bottling line and know the majority of those that work there wouldn't touch the stuff and have been trying to produce a better flavoured ginger beer. one brew i tried about a month ago was quite nice, far more ginger in it. i'm not sure if they have or will adopt the new brew anytime soon though.

the lager isn't too bad, very drinkable but why are the so could "premium" beers the ones with the least flavour? i'm a toohey's old man mostly so i prefer a stronger flavour.

Without fear of being shouted down, I don't mind the ginger on a hot day at QWB.

Wouldn't touch the lager but. As I have already posted in another thread, tastes like soapy off water to me.

Heads up for the mention of the seasonals Jay. Agree with you there.

My rant with the company is on a different matter to yardie. No response to a few emails asking for some information on their black ale after enjoying it. This is bad businees in my eyes and p#$ses me off. Most companys eventually get back with some information but none from those guys.

Still waiting for Steel River Brewery to be up and running to try their 'local product'.

Antsvb,

What's this Steel River Brewery you speak of?

I'm pretty sure that the Black Ale is the same beer as last years Winter Seasonal brew.

I was a big fan of the "Autumn Amber Ale" last time I was there. Don't know if it's still available but it's basically a lot like the JSAA (pretty sure they use willamette as well) with a crisper hop profile and bit less sweetness. Pretty good on a sunny Friday arvo overlooking the harbour.

Cheers,
Jay.

Jay,

Steelriver brewery is currently being built (at least last time I was out there for work) in the 'Steel River Industrial Estate' off industrial highway at Mayfield West.

My rumour has it that it is 2 local homebrewers ready to try tap into the ever growing micro/botique market. Sounds like a Newie version of Mountain Goat.

Sort of remember the Bluetongue Autumn ale but it was towards the end of a rather large evening. Had mixed thoughts on the Black. Haven't got out much of late but must try to get down for some sampling.

I can't comment on the GB as I haven't tried it yet, but I found the Lager to be a disappointment. My mates all said it was nice, but to me, It tasted like a homebrew that I wouldn't bother trying to do again! Too plain and boring.

we've been trying to sell their lager for about 2 years, its now going out of date & when we serve it free as a sample. The responses are all basically the same-"not real flash" IE; completely overated, overpriced, overindulgently hyped, "singo" crap.

Steel River is up and running.

Try the "Platts Folly", I think that is theirs. Very nice.

Their Steel River Lager was a bit "blah"

The original Pig Iron was great IMO. But I cannot find it on tap anywhere anymore as the "Tooheys" outsells it at the local, and they make more profit.......bastards

I think this is the guy who owns the Mayfield HBS.

Cheers

Boonie

Again, try the Platts Folly.........very nice beer    :D

PS The Blue Tongue Ginger beer is shite and all my neighbours reckon mine is fantastic

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

somehow i missed this thread and bought one of their GBs today. I'm sorry.

I tried a blue tounge pilsner a while ago, and found it to be far below standards. this ginger beer is so much worse than that.

the pilsner was forgettable. this is just regrettable.

Bluetounge really is a classic example of style over substance.
