For those who do not subscribe to the Mountain Goat Brewery's mailing list-
BEER 102:
This week's beer appreciation night (Wed 15 June) is gonna be a ripper cos special guest maltser Neil Cole is gonna show us his malting chops. We'll be sniffing, tasting and admiring a good array of different malts and then we'll see how it impacts on different beer styles. There are a handful of tickets left ($35 each) so call the goatline 9428-1180 to square some away.
CANBERRA MISSION:
Cam Goat is heading to Canberra this arvo with a band of Victorian microbrewers to lobby the government for an excise tax break. The proposal would see micros receiving the same rebate that small Australian wineries receive which would make a HUGE difference to the industry.
SUREFOOT STOUT:
The first batch of this year's Surefoot is in Fermenter 3 and fermenting away a treat. It'll be out on shelves in about 3 weeks time. Look out for it.
APPRECIATING STOUT:
The best thing about winter is stout, stout and more stout. In celebration of this fine style we are holding a stout appreciation night here at the brewery on Wed 27 July at 6pm. Dave will give us the background and then we'll blind taste 6 exponents of the style, judge and enthusiastically debate. Come to learn more about beer and to make new pals. Tickets $35 p/head pre-booked on 9428-1180. Light food provided. Thirty places max.
OLD SUREFOOT:
Last July we tucked away 170 x 640ml longnecks of our stout. We've just pulled them out of the cellar, applied the Old Surefoot label and they're now making their way out to a few good outlets including Transport (City), Cloud Wines (Sth Melb), Purvis Cellars (Surry Hills) and the Goat bar. She's matured a treat, big coffee and chocolate flavours and nicely rounded.
NEW DRAUGHT ACCOUNTS:
A couple of new Hightail tap accounts to mention- the Grace Darling on Smith Street, Collingwood and the Spread Eagle on Bridge Rd, Richmond. These fine establishments are hereby Mountain Goat Approved.
tried the surefoot on saturday night.. very nice drop indeed. could be abit 'bigger' imo. 4.5% for a stout is pretty low.. has great body & choc roast flavour though
Saw the Old Surefoot 640ml at Purvis Cellars last Friday. Has a bottling date of July 2004 on the bottle.
Was keen for a taste but had to put the bottle back when they told me it was $21.

GOAT'S 8th BIRTHDAY:
Amazing as it seems we have survived 8 years now and we're gonna have a beer to celebrate this Sat 17 Sept at the brewery. We'll be here from 7pm and members of the Goat Army are most welcome to join us. There'll be some special historic Goat super 8 footage screened, there'll be fusbal, there'll be nice polite conversation. See you here.
WHEAT BEERS:
Nope we don't brew em but we sure like em so the next beer appreciation evening will be dedicated to them. Wed 28 September at 6pm here at Mountain Goat. Pre book tickets on the goat hotline 9428-1180 or email sam@goatbeer.com.au. Limited to 30 places.
Best,
Dave and Cam
Hmmm, Saturday could be a big night...anyone want to meet up there?
Saturday was a good night. Not too crowded, not too empty, just about right.
First drinks were free- a pint of Goat Pale drunk in the brewery is a fine thing indeed, but even better when it's a freebie.
They also had the NCB Heidi altbier on- never tried that before, very rich with a subtle taste of chocolate.
All this and cake too.
Unfortunately we had to leave fairly early, went to a bar for a friend's leaving party, where they were happy to charge $6.80 for a Squires Amber! Talk about a rude awakening.
