where do you get your bottles?

Sure its twice the work to bottle, but I'll see how it goes.

It's double the washing, bottling, sanitizing & capping - but I tell you what - get some six pack holders like heineken, crown etc & the carton to suit and they store the easiest of the lot.

BTW whats the BVBC stuff like ?

Sorry, I dont know what its like...as I said I work at a recycling centre so by the time I saw the bottles they were all empty. I've heard it is pretty good though

I like the Grolsch bottles, but can't afford a whole carton, so I buy two every Friday. Over the weeks I end up with enough for a brew.

I'm stocking up on Grolsch/swing top bottles for my brew

I'm a newbie, so when I was searching eBay for a home brew kit, I found a set up AND 34 Grolsch bottles for the grand total of $41 - bargain! The bottles themselves would have at least gone for that much.

At the moment I'm slowly drinking my way through more Grolsch and other swing top beers. I keep telling myself that it's an investment. Life is so hard sometimes...

local recycling centre told me they don't keep em at all.

I was in the recycling place at Mt Barker yesterday and they had heaps of long necks and also a couple of crates of grolsch swingtop bottles

not sure how much they are charging though

not sure about the Mt Barker depot, but at the recycling centre I work at we arent allowed to sell bottles. We are allowed to trade 1:1, thats it.

Ie. I cant sell someone 30 longnecks, but if you bring in 30 cans/bottles I can trade them with you





And for the record: the Barossa Valley Brewing Co. have really bad labels that don't come off easily, but Bee Sting (by another barossa brewing place) come off easy as pie

Next time you go to a bbq or social gathering where beer is involved keep an eye out for people drinking from non twist top bottles,we all are creatures of habbit and I would bet you they throw out maybe a case a week of empties at home,give them your ph number and get them to ring you before they recycle them. Worked for me I can get 1 case of emptie Blue tongue bottles per week every week. I realise these are stubbies but hay that is my preferred HB bottle...

Do people think ~ $70 for 20 (full) swingtop grolsch bottles is a worthwhile investment? my roomate told me to go to dan murphy's and spend $70 on a slab of beer. something he hasnt tried. i can get 20 473 grolsch swingtops for that, but grolsch isnt the best beer i can get for that price.

then again, my roomate's idea of a great beer is carlton draught...... grolsch is a huge improvement....

If swing tops are what you want then its not a bad idea or price for that matter, more like $80 where i am, there was a guy selling 20 of them on ebay for $40, so i think you would be better off paying the $70 and getting full ones, as grolsch is worth at least the 30 extra dont you think, its the swing tops that cost alot, you can actually get a slab of grolsch for $40 but thats in normal 330ml stubbies

if my calculations are correct, i'm getting alot more beer then in a slab of 330 ml buying 20 473 ml as well
i guess my main question is, are swingtops all that great?? this is my very 1st brew. i'll be bottling in whatever i guy tonight, whatever i save from other people tonight, and if needed, i'm raiding the local pub's recycling on sunday. i suppose the only way i'm going to find out what's best is to try! but i'd like to hear other people's opinions on swingtops..

I love my Grolsch swingtops, wish I had more of them. Easier to bottle with than stubbies, easier to drink in one go than 750ml crownies. Just have to change the washers for news ones every few uses, most HB stores sell them.

Agree with NTRabbit, swingtops are great for HB bottling. Self capping! Nothing could be easier.

You can extend the life of the cap washers by turning them inside out after every few uses, but replacements are pretty cheap in any case.

I have 2-3 doz Grolsch and 14-15 doz Schwelmer 500mls, with the latter slowly increasing. Don't have a capper, because I don't need one. Bottling procedure is super efficient.
