"Probably The Best Beer In The World"

The good, the bad and the ugly of commercial beer and breweries, including microbreweries and craft breweries.

"Probably The Best Beer In The World"

I was out and about over the weekend trying to learn how to use my new SLR camera when I saw this bar's patio umbrellas. I find them absolutely hilarious! I assume others here may have a similar reaction:

A few months ago I tried a Carlsberg just to give it a shot - tasted like a bland megaswill lager to me. Actually, I prefer the Chinese megaswill brands to Carlsberg.

Fresh Carlsberg on tap is actually quite a nice drop. The imported bottled stuff isn't bad either. However I am certain for me that it is not the best beer in the world. Others of course would disagree. ;)
Prost and happy brewing!

Yeah, it is written on the bottles. Good one marketing guys.

The word "probably" actually means "I am not that fussy about the taste of my beer, and this is at least as drinkable as others, possibly more so" rather than relating to mathematical probability.

If only Douglas Adams was here.

One of the last great intellectuals.

The ad should be:

You don't know good beer from bad, so drink this and people will think you have taste.

Or maybe:

Our other beer is called elephant... Guess why.
A beer in the hand is worth two in George Bush...

"They say beer will make me dumb. It are go good with pizza"

The Carlsberg here is brewed in China (as is Budweiser, Corona, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Guinness). Maybe the draft stuff brewed in Europe is better. Either way, the bottled stuff here cost many times more than the local brews, they all taste roughly the same though. Almost similar enough to ague they all come from the same vat!

And while "King Of Beers" is Bud's slogan I think it works a bit better as it isnt quite as directly arrogant and it is a little more open to interpretation. It could be rationally argued too as Bud is the most widely distributed beer in the world so it is the "King of Beers." You could say it "Reigns Over the Kingdom of Earth" because it is everywhere. (You'll notice I dont defend Bud's flavor profile!)

As I said though, I just found the Carlsberg slogan funny and thought I'd share.

The King of Beers slogan is no less arrogant that 'probably' the best beer in the world which is remotely amusing. And lets not even go down the road of Budvar vs Budweiser lest we open up a discussion on globalisation. The CEOs of both companies have been quoting as saying

1. “Geographic location has no bearing on a beer’s quality -- beer can be made to the same standards anywhere and does not rely on locations for its character.”

2. "where a product is made will affect its quality"

Its typical of a country that holds the world series baseball comp but doesnt invite any other country.

'Probably' not the best time to bring up this topic as i am currently reading Chomsky......

Sorry Greg, i will go and have my coffee and behave now.

p.s. Carlsberg isnt that bad and most definitely better than the yanky budweiser which tastes like 5 year old, stale VB

So what? Just another funny advertising / marketing bit of spin.
It's just another one of the many many lagers / pils style of beers which are brewed all over the world with varying rates of success.
All we can say is that they are all light in colour, very clean and clear, and they may or may not have some malt or hop quality.
I'll bet if you lined up, say, 24 lagers / pils from around the world, even the best experts would have great difficulty picking one from another, with little to distinguish any of them.
But let's not forget that Australia undoubtedly has the best lager in the world. Why else would they go to the trouble of wrapping Crown bottles in all that gold foil, if it's not liquid gold inside the bottle?
Nope, give me a beer with real character, any day.
Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, TTL, LCPA, Pikantus Dunkler Weizenbock, Schöfferhofen hefeweizen etc etc, they're my style of beers, full of character and individuality.

In a blind tasting if you couldnt distinguish budweiser from budvar then you need help.

The subtle differences in hop flavour/aroma may be difficult especially if you are tasting 24.

Budweiser, Budvar, Carling, Heineken, Corona

Could you pick these apart? I doubt i would have any troubles and i have been destroying my taste buds with chilli for years.
