Brew Calculator

Postby Evo » Sunday Jan 02, 2005 10:35 am

After brewing a bock that contained a 1.7kg can, 1kg dark LME, 250g dex, 250g light DME, and a 1kg porter pack (grains), and getting a 1044 reading from my hydrometer (I was expecting > 1060), I was thinking about making a brew calculator like this one -

or

I've seen others about on the web that REALLY get carried away with themselves (although they may be good for someone with a bit more knowledge on the subject). The one above seems pretty simple and good for what I want, but I'd like to add a few more things to it and try to make it more accurate.

Since I normally use liquid yeast and since these yeasts have a rating as to how attenuative they are, I was thinking of factoring this in as well.

So my question, does anyone know how fermentable each of the additives are ? ie dextrose is 100% fermentable, DME about 70% (I think), etc etc. Also, can anyone think of anything else that might be useful ? If it works I'll whack it up on my site for everyone to use.[/url]
