Adding hops

Postby Chris2012 » Thursday Mar 08, 2012 3:22 pm

Gday forum!

I'm on my 5rd brew now and my quest for better beer started immediatly. Using the post "Simple things that make your HB better" post I'm quickly moving away from K+K brewing.

I have some hops to add to the boil but dont have any of those hops bags. Can I just add the pellets to the boil or will I get to much sediment?

I was going to follow a straight forward Pale ale recipe;

1kg LDME
500g Dextrose
15g Amarillo @ 60min
15g Amarillo @ 30min
5g Amarillo @ flameout
1.7kg Can of Coopers Australian Pale Ale @ flameout
12g Golding finishing hops
US Safale 05 @ 24C
Ferment for two weeks in aircon room @ 19C

Thanks in advance!

Adding hops

Straight to the boil, mate. Some people worry about the sediment but I never have bothered with removing it and it's never caused me any dramas.

I have just started using hop bags but prior to that used to strain the wort when putting into my fermenter. I've never had a problem with sediment either as it all pretty much settles to the bottom anyway.
