Right on your doorstep Chris. Well Perth anyway.

http://www.rotamoulding.com.au/Cone_Tanks%20Small.htm

There was a thread on AHB and the guy who works at Rota took some advise and specifically developed a couple.

I'll send through the thread link if I can find it.

Cheers, Mat.

Been waiting a while now for someone to trial the rotomolding conical and report findings.
Don't know why I want one, I just do.

Go for it Chris, you know you want to.
Nothing interesting to see here, move along.

i certainly do want one, no more siphoning to secondary then, just drain off the yeast.
but maybe slightly harder to clean ?

they have a 25mm bsp thread moulded into the bottom.

if i do get one i will certainly post results and pictures etc

thanks Matt, thats a good link.

Doesn't your fermenter have an outlet valve? a bucket?

No such animal!!

BSP is an imperial thread - British Standard Pipe.

When you ask for a valve to fit it, you will need 1" BSPT (T is for taper)

I see on their site they list 25 BSPF,
Pipe threads are rated by their respective pipe size ie, 1" or 25 NB (nominal bore) which is the inside diameter, the thread is on the outside so it is actually about 1/4" larger than the rated NB size.

I would be checking the actual size of this "25 BSP" thread, if the thread actually measures 25mm in dia, or 1" to be more correct, it means that it is actually a 3/4" BSP.

Cheers, mick.

Thanks Mick,
Am sure its 25mm,

Have done the odd bit of pipework / threading in my fuel bowser / lube dispensing installation and repair days (15 yrs of it), so no worries with threads etc, am just slack with the wording.

Never really thought of just tipping the fermenter on its side and drawing most of the yeast off that way.
I wonder how much wort you would waste ?

Might give that a try before I shell any coins out.

cheers,
Chris

There is no such thing as a 25mm pipe thread! (1 inch is actually 25.4 mm)
A 1 inch BSP thread actually measures about 1 1/4 inches OD.
All pipe threads are Imperial std,

Why not just fit an outlet into your bucket?

You can use a bulkhead with a backing nut & a couple of rubber washers to seal. Any plumbing suplies will have them, just smear a good qual, silicon on the inside so there are no nooks & crannies for bugs to hide in or unscrew the backing nut & remove each time you clean out the fermenter/bucket.
