I know Chris. I shouldn't have been surprised. Considerable research is to be expected in order for investors to shell out around $750,000 .

Sure....but their researching would be cashflow / rate of return on investment based first and as for the product, well that would be secondary, wouldn't it?! Only a fool would invest in a business that made excellent beer, at a loss...

I recently visited a ubrew place in my old home town and had a chat to the guy there and he reckons that you really need about 250 000 people in the town itself for 1 ubrew place otherwise you probably wont do as well as youd like. This place is in a town of about 100 000 people and im sure he said that he only had 1500 clients, some brew every week(groups of guys) while others could be monthly or more(single guys).
Personally since I have just started brewing Id see my money better in Home Brew than at the cheapest $20-dearest $30 a carton from ubrew. Also you have to buy 6 cartons at a time($120-$180).

If the startup cost is $750 000 and he did 1 carton a week to every client at $25ctn(highly unlikely), it will take him 20 years to recover $750 000 without even paying for rent, overheads etc.

This looks very much like a variation of a U-Brewit recipe I have been trying to get a hold of (Irish Dry)??? If I am correct would you have the exact recipe list & cook times to allow me to have a go at it at home? as Im new to HB & am keen to try an extract brew at home. Also, when you do a brew at their premises it only takes two weeks from brew to drinking, would you have any idea of ferment/chill times etc?

Practically all my bottles are "twist top" largies & have never had a problem.

Back to these UBrew set ups, are they primarily Extract brews or Mash Brews??

Gee this is an old post brought back to life!!! I couldn't even remember posting here..

My bottles were stubbies. I rekon the wall thickness of the tallies would be better. I have been told though that the twist top bottles are a lesser grade of glass than the crown seal ones.

Mick when I did it (once) it was purely extract. I do remember using glucose syrup as well. No mashing or use of specialty grains. Hops were pellet form.

Things may have changed but I doubt it.
