Cooling Coil- How long does it need to be?

As I get into full mash I know i will need a copper wort cooler. If I use icy cold water how long does the coil need to be?

Cant help you with that but a copper immersion chiller is only one a of few methods of cooling the wort down. Others include a CFWC (counter flow wort chiller) and the one i use - a plate chiller

I used about 8 or 9 meters of mine for my immersion chiller, and used the other 3 or 4 meters for a pre-chiller. The pre-chiller sits in a plastic crate. Once the wort is cooled to ambient water temperature, I fill the pre-chiller crate with some water and a stack of ice. It knocks off at least another 10ºC in about 5 minutes.
Use your initiative for what suits you best.
