I'm planing on getting a mill so I can start to crush my own grain, and am curious why people picked the one that they did?

I have been looking at the MillMaster Grain Mill from Mashmaster and it looks like a good quality unit. I've been waiting for it to be released before I made a choice on what to get. It set to be released in December and you can place a pre order on one now at a special introductory price.

I've got the marga mill which i modified

I'd be really keen to the get the mashmaster one - but can't justify 2 mills

Is yours the standard model, or adjustable?

I have an order in for the MillMaster.
I chose it because it seems to have the largest rollers, and to be a good design overall. I also like the fact they are geared, so no slippage.

I just bought a 2nd hand marga. Its already modified and worked a treat. I DO need to set up a drill or motorise it soon cos it does take time to mill 4kg of grain by hand! Still, nothing like the ability to be able to brew when i want with the ingredients i have to hand.

I've been very happy with my Marga - the best $80 I ever spent....

I recently bought a large off white downpipe fitting from Bunnings, taped it to the small grain tray on top of the Marga and I can crush a brew's worth of grain in one go - it's a good workout for the arms and the best value for money triple roller mill going around, IMHO.

the only thing that annoys me about the little marga mill is the grain continually plugging up the small hopper, so you have to give it a tap or dig your finger in the grain. apart from that its a ripper...

I bought my Marga, modified, from Grumpies....many moons ago.

They drilled a new gap setting for Barley and another gap for wheat and they're pretty well spot on. They also bored out the hopper opening (looks like they used a router) and it's as wide as...if the grains get caught up, I tap the sides as I go and it's all good.

I have been using a Porkert that I got in Sydney Rd Brunswick for 18 months now, and, as I am a country boy, I don't mind spending 30min every so often to grind 5 kg of grain. Works an absolute treat, as I have been able to adjust it to grind grist just to the point of breaking the shell of the seeds.
Gives a pretty good workout too. Having said that, instead of spending 70$, I would have, if I had $$, spent the dollars on that canadian one "Ottawa Valley" or such like automated one. Depends on the $$$. If I had them I would do kegging rather than bottles, but I hate the monopoly here where I can't fill my co2 bottles anymore...........

I crushed 4.2kg of grains (including wheat malt) yesterday, by hand, and it took 35 mins - I lost some time because I crushed 300g of wheat malt on a slightly narrower setting first, then reset the mill for the barley.
