Enjoying a Strong Ale this evening and though 'I could brew this...'
The label states: "Squire reports having used a massive eight bushels of grain to make a 'hogshead of my best strong beer', and an equally heavy hopping rate of an ounce per gallon"
I hunted around the net and got a conversion of a bushel of barley being about 21.772 Kg, and a hogshead about 238 litres.
This works out to about 17Kg of grain for a 23 litre batch, but this figure seems a little (ok alot) high.
Anyone care to comment?
Cheers,
Greg
