Thanks guys, I'm just about to put down a Hoegaarden style with 15g of Orange zest and 15g of cracked corriander seeds as recommended by the HBS. It got me thinking about the lemon zest. If you can use orange zest, surely you can use lemon zest?!? That was my line of thinking anyway. I'll try it and ...

BPJ, Is the Greensborough HBS still open? I've tried calling it several times over the last week and it rings out.

Corona Recipe

G'Day Guys,

Just wondering if someone has a simple Corona recipe? I want to make it using a kit as a base, not quite ready for the more advanced stuff yet.
Has anyone ever tried putting lemon zest in the brew, say 10-15g boiled for 15 minutes to get the effect of putting a slice of lemon in. Any ...

Thanks Greg, thats a relief. Enough about our weather, although it has been good for Lager brewing (read shite) the last couple of weeks.

Stuffed or Normal?

Hi Gurus,

I have put down a Coopers Bavarian Lager with Coopers brewblend #2 and 500g of honey on Monday. Its bubbling away nicely, but when I taste it, its quite bitter and there is an eggy smell coming from the airlock. Any ideas? Certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would be quite ...

Sorry, worked it out, Malt Shovel Brewery right! I thought James Squire made Malt Shovel, not the other way round. Anyway, been checking out the website and I've added that tour to my agenda. Worthwhile you said?!?

DB, the moonlight was a good one was it? I was up in Mooloolaba last week and got a different 6 pack every day to try new beers. I bought the GrandRidge Supershine which is very potent and very expensive. 11% alcohol and a stubby is $7 from the bottle shop and $150 a carton. Not my cup of tea though ...

Thanks guys! DB whats the msb tour? What does msb stand for? I did the Boags tour in Launceston a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. Much better than the CUB one. Much more detailed and showed you through more areas of the brewery than CUB. Nice beer at the end too. Definitely worth a look if you ...

Tricks and Tips

I went and did the CUB tour in Abbotsford on Monday and at the after tour tasting had a couple of beers that I found very interesting, perfect for summer. They were Cascade's Spring beer and Hoegaarden. Both had a floral flavouring, the Cascade not as strong though. I spoke to the local HBS who told ...

Honey beer

Hi guys, I'm just about to attempt a honey wheat beer (inspired by Beez Neez of Matilda Breweries) and need some help. I'm going to use a Coopers Bavarian with Coopers brew blend #2 and throw in some honey. I've bought some organic honey from the supermarket and was going to throw that in as well ...

Great beers

Guys, I'm getting through the whole Cascade range. My first was the Cascade Draught (with #15 brewblend) which is great (almost gone). I've had a Cascade Pale Ale(with #15 brewblend) in the bottle for the last week and a half, smells great, can't wait to taste it. I put a Cascade Porter on last ...

Thanks Franky, but you still get fluctuations in temp. I have a timer on it and this time of year the temp varies a fair bit. If I have the brew belt on overnight, the temp goes to 24-26 degrees. If its off, it hovers down around 18-20, which is fine but I'm worried one night it will decrease below ...

Brew heating

Hi Dan, The aquarium heaters are totally submersible, so you could have them in the brew hanging about 2 inches above the bottom so it doesn't mix with the sediment in the bottom at the end. This should heat the brew through and would be no more localised than a brew belt.

Keeping brew at right temp

Just wanted to know if anyone had tried an aquarium heater to keep their brew at the right temp. I've got a belt heater (no thermostat) but I'm sick of checking it all the time, turning it on and off to keep the temp around 20-22 degrees. The aquarium heaters have thermostats and should keep the ...

Sanitising

Hi guys, I just wanted to know a few different options for sanitising your equipment and bottles. I used powder stuff for the first brew and bleach for the second. The powder stuff from the HBS costs a bomb and the bleach I've heard mixed reports on. I know this has been covered to a degree in some ...

Cost

Yeah, right on Oats, I couldn't care less about the cost. I just love the satisfaction of drinking my own beer (as I am right now) that tastes as good if not better than the commercial stuff. I love the process, the whole experience.

First Brew Results - Cascade Draught

I just tried my first brew, a cascade draught. It was fantastic. After 2 unsuccessful homebrew attempts 10 year ago, I packed up my kit until now. I called into the homebrew shop 4 weeks or so ago and last night had 5 stubbies which were great. I used a cascade draught can with a #15 brewblend by ...

Same Problem

Hi guys, First time post. Just discovered this site and have already found it very helpful. Straight on my favourites list. I am a new brewer, I just put on my second batch last night. The first is a Cascade Draught Spicy Ghost which has been bottled for a week. I put on a Cascade Pale Ale last ...
