Simo,

Have had a few this evening, so hopefully this makes sense...

It's been said on the forum before - ditch the "lollies" (a.k.a Carbonation drops). They just cause too much anguish. Going through the bother of smashing them into smaller pieces is just not worth the effort. Do yourself a favour ...

Sorry lads, been a while since I've logged on. Still getting through the posts!

UC1, I'm good for a tenner - 'tis a worthy cause. If we're including bad beer, do we dare ship some Geelong Bitter as well? Or do the Canadian Customs frown upon importing vomit in a bottle?

Thanks Dogger,

At a guess, I'd suggest the chlorine was coming from the water I was topping up my fermenter with. I wasn't filtering or boiling the water.

I did wash everything with bleach, but I was rinsing, then washing again with brewers' detergent, then rinsing, then dosing heavily on the ...

The results are in!

Dropped into HBS yesterday, and took a bottle of the offending (offensive  ). And the diagnosis? Chlorophenols. Yuck!

Hands up those who said Chloropenals at the beginning. 1,2,3... OK, so there's a few of you. But seriously, thanks to everyone who offered advice. Without this forum, I'd ...

Sorry to see you go. I was actually wondering where you'd gotten to.

Take care, and hope to see you back soon.

Has anyone tried it?
No, but I have one in the fridge awaiting use. Bought it a couple of months ago to use with a particular brew, but in the end went with something else. Anyone got any thoughts on a recipe that might go well this yeast? Or is LCPA the way to go?

Thanks,

Back into it after a short hiatus...

Scooper, How did the house move go?
Have you got your brew room? Any pictures of it?

House move went well, thanks. Have got the brew room, however, it seems that I was played at my own game. On the day of the move, ALL my other belongings were also put into ...

Easy. You have to let them believe that they are making the decision. Converstaion went something like this:

scooper: I want to setup my brewing in the spare bedroom of the new house

'er indoors: I don't think that it's a good idea.

scooper: That's alright, it'd be better in the kitchen anyway. I ...

Thanks for following up, LB.

Yep, that brew has been in the bottle for a couple of weeks. Have tasted a couple, and they were fine. Gotta let this one condition a bit more, though.

Have put another one down since, but I'm not as happy with it. It has some of the same bad taste and smell as the ...

Tyberious,

How "East" are you? There's a couple that I know of that cover the Eastern Suburbs.

Australian Home Brewing have shops in Oakleigh, Heidelberg, and they've opened a store in Richmond just this week. Can't speak for the Heidi or Richmond shops as I've never been, but I concur with Oliver ...

I must admit, until a several years ago, I thought Australia brewed the best beers in the world. I can hear you all laughing, but I really did. I was one of those CUB-swilling animals - like John Abbott - who drank VB/Coldies/Draught, and on a splurge, Crownies. I had ventured as far as sampling a ...

> So I take it IS an ale yeast with the Morgans Blue Mtns Lager?

I put a Morgan's Blue Mountain Lager on last week, and the yeast was a Lager yeast. Well, that's what it said on the outside of the packet...

This brew has been at a constent 18 degrees celcius, which I know is a tad high for a lager ...

A few days in...

Evening all,

Popped on the brew Thursday evening, and so far, all is travelling well. The smells coming from the airlock haven't deteriated into their usual "not quite right" smell. While it's too early to know for sure, it's a good start, and I'm happy.

Hi Mazzle Dazzle,

I'm pretty new to this as well, and enjoyong it as you are. :D

You'll probably find that as you've added a Cooper's Brew Enhancer 2 that you'll end up with a higher FG. This is because the maltodextrin in the Brew Enhancer is not fermentable. This is what Cooper's say about the ...

NickMoore,

Heh heh. No, no toilet.

Golden Shower? Good God! Would be a good trick, considering the fermenter is on a bench, almost out of arm's reach. And if I set up a camera in the bathroom, my girlfriend might get a bit suspicious. Sounds a bit like that scene from National Lampoon's European ...

anti-fsck,

Agreed. It's impossible to get two *identical* batches as there are just too many variables. However, to the average CUB-swilling Aussie, I'm sure it all tastes the same.
