Re: Hargreaves Hill Brewery
What are the 5 beers they've got? I've only tried the pale, the porter and the esb, but would be keen to give the others a go.

Re: England, Germany and the Low Countries
I've just spent 4 days in oxford, and its a fantastic city. There was a pub just off cornmarket st (thats the main street in the city) called the white horse (i think) that was really very good. It's sort of opposite the tourist centre, and its one of those places that have supposedly been around ...

Hahaha, Stu, I'm guessing you're talking about good old Public Bar. The first few times, I thought it was fantastic. But after last time, I'm not sure that I'll be going back. Usually, I will drink absolutely anything... but I could not stomach the Geelong Bitter.

I've got one of these going down at the moment. The aroma is really good, lots of chocolate and spices going on. I'm finding that its tasting better toward the end of the glass (probably cause its warmed up a little).

Re: Pepperjack
I've only had a small sample of peppejack ale, so take this with a grain of salt. But from talking with the brewers, they use grape concentrate, and it makes up about a third of the total fermentables. This would be a cool beer to have a go at - hope it goes well.

I'd also mention Purvis in Surrey Hills, if you can get there. It has a good range of imports and Aussie Micros.
Check out the range of beers from Meantime while your there. Great beers! I've tried the coffee porter and the IPA, and they were both excellent!

I think I'm definetly going to be paying that place a visit in the next week or so. Apparently they are going to be having a couple of kegs of Jamieson's Son of the beast on the rotating tap soon, which I recommend to anyone who's a fan of highly hopped beers.

Re: Stella Artios
Funnily enough, Stella in europe and the UK is considered to be like VB here. It has the nick name of wife beater, due to the higher alcohol content. My Irish freind at work says that its a scumbags beer in Ireland.

Re: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Very true Kevinlis. I don't remember the exact route that it comes by, but it goes via England a fair portion of Europe too. That said, I bought some from Purvis Cellars in Surrey Hills a while back, and it was still very nice, but I'd love to try it fresh.

Jeez, can't say I'd pay $12 for a pint of any Stella, brewed under license or not.

What's your evidence for fermentation having stopped? Definetly leave it for a while anyway.

Has anyone tried Baron's Black Wattle? I've had it on tap a couple of times, and I could spend the night on that thing. Its not really like anything else I've ever tried before.

I'm about 6'1 and 80kg. Just starting to develop a bit of a gut, but oh well. I'm starting to do a lot more exercise and such, so it should all be cool.

Boonie, this recipe really comes together... don't know how you did it. I fermented this at about 24*C, and its still lovely. Gonna head out and try the real thing later on tonight, we'll see how it goes.
