Glad wrap is the only way to go. You can see what's going on during the fermentation process. Also you don't have to worry about cleaning/steralizing a lid and the airlock, also you don't have to worry about the silly airlock not bubbling.

The harder the water the better, but you must filter the chlorine out of it. Apparently the big breweries use additives to make their water harder.

Microbrewery

One of those microbreweries has opened up near me, the one where you mix the wort up on their premisis and then wait two weeks for fermentation and then go back and bottle it. Fermentation is done under controlled temps and the beer is filtered before bottling. They also sterilize your bottles for ...

HAAGEN Lager Beer

Was at the bottlo' and was looking for a fancy European type tasting beer as a treat for the Missus and myself. We ended up buying Haagen Lager beer which was $10 a 6 pack and is brewed in Oz. Has anyone else tried this brew, very nice.

Put some bottle washing detergent in it and a jug of boiling water, get a soft bristled brush (the type used for washing dishes) and scrub the crud off. Comes off very easy using the boiling water, because the detergent dissolves straight away. Rinse well and leave in the sun to dry.

ICE

Is it advisable to add the yeast to the fermenter when there is ice still floating in it? Or is it better to let it totally melt then add it. The wort temp. is approx. 18 degrees with ice still floating in it.

Stout and Hops

Has anybody got any ideas for the Coopers Irish Stout kit, maybe a good recipe or type of hops that go well with these kits. Have done twice previously, one with a Morgan's Choc-Malt and the other with a Morgan's Caramalt, both were pretty decent. I've heard of Fuggles and Willamette hops being ...

I get hangovers if I drink enough of both, but I think the hangovers I get on commercial beers are a lot worse than HB.

I just give the fermenter a good wash with brewers detergent, rinse and let dry. Then for the next brew I swish some boiling water around with the tap attached, then I sanitize with Sodium Met., after that I rinse with garden hose water. Works for me.

Grow a sense of humour Shaun, by the way I don't use a lid and know what a wort looks like in different stages of fermentation. The dunny joke was only ever intended as that....a joke...so get of your high horse and don't take things so seriously.

I got most of my old XXXX roll tops from the dump, (300 approx.). I soaked them overnight in a strong water and bleach mixture, which nothing would have lived through. Next day I gave them a thorough rinse and they came up a treat, a bit of work initially but worth it in the long run. Got 5 ...

I drain the Sod Met out of the bottles first then let sit for 15 mins. in those 15 mins the bottles are drying except for a little bit in the bottom. As I said i've never had a problem.

I let my bottles sit for about 15 mins. after swirling around the Sod. Met. solution in each one then I rinse each one quickly with warm water and let them drain. Whatever you do don't start using bleach as a sterilizer, I stuffed up two brews with it, I have never had a problem with Sod. Met.
