I live around the corner from the chapel hill store, and the prices on certain items are cheaper there.

For example PET bottles are 75c with lids at Chapel Hill, 90-something c elsewhere.

I think it is still a pretty loose chain of stores.

Flat cider status report:

I sat all the bottles in warm water for an hour or so, hoping the yeast would wake up. This resulted in about 2 PET bottles getting "hard" from adequate fizz. The rest showed no improvement.

Next, when bottling my latest beer, I scooped a big spoonful of yeast off the ...

Re: Flat Cider revisited

1. Sit the bottles in 30 degree water for a while.
2. Add a couple of grains of dried yeast to the bottle.
3. Make a yeast starter and add a few mls of that to the bottle.

If I could revisit my original post, what is your collective opinion on these listed steps. Has anyone tried them. Are they ...

Sometime if you collect first drop from tap you get a "sugar" build up where it has collected in sediment trap. I always let first 50ml go to clear this build up!

I think this must be the explanation. I thought the SG might have been so high simply because it was a cider, and due to the extra ...

Thanks guys, a cheap soda syphon might be the surest way to go.

Any thoughts about adding yeast to the bottle?

The Juice was freshly opened shelf-stable preservative-free.

It was in the fermentor nearly three weeks, and the yeast dropped out pretty hard on the bottom. I can see some fine suspension in the bottle, as well as the "swirl" of dissolved sugar in the bottom.

I have already tried the simple ...

The recipe for the cider was a variant on "Oliver's #35" as follows:

1 can BlackRock Apple cider
1 kg Glucose
200g Lactose
200-300mls Berri apple and pear juice

Tastes great (although very flat), the pear juice adds a certain something, , but its not as boozy as I had led myself to believe.

High Alcohol % from SG/FG, why am I sober?

I was also wondering if anyone has every experienced their alcohol percentage seemingly being way off the calculations?

The Blackrock cider I brewed up recently had SG=1064 FG=1012 giving an approx. 7% alc. And yet when I drink it, I find that I can drink two (740ml) bottles and have no more effect ...

Flat Cider revisited

Hi folks,

For my second brew out of the coopers kit, I made a blackrock Cider for the missus, and its been in the bottle for three weeks and although tasting delicious they are all flat as a tack.

The recipe was a variant on Oliver's #35 cider, using ~200ml of berri apple and pear juice in place ...

Hi all (first time caller, long time listener)

I don't think N2O is illegal or restricted in Australia. You can get food service nitrous canisters from BOC.

A big difference between CO2 and N2O is that nitrous has a sweet taste. Those bitter stinging CO2 bubbles will not be there. That's why it is ...
