I think its a personal taste thing. I've tried more than recommended, less than recommended and even mixed two different flavours together, just to see what taste or flavours I'd get. I eventually found one that I like and now just stick to that.

thanks mick. the mrs and love our camping but we've never tried a camp oven. might be a good way to see just how good they are. i have a few mates that use them and like everything,you can only get better with practice.

i eventually brought a z filter set up that came with 2 buckets. they must be good buckets, they cost the same as the filter.
i used it a few times but thought id packed it with too much carbon because it took so long to filter.
i then bought the pope garden filters and filled them with the carbon ...

i use the edwards scrub turkey but put 3 cap fulls instead of 2.i find it great.

great footage warra48. the mrs and i just got back after a week at port. didn't see any koalas though.we saw some at billabongs last time we were up there. might have to look at the koala hospital off lord street(i think thats right) next trip.

thanks guys. im almost a pro now. ive done 3 batches,ha ha. im slowly working out what works for me. although with the amount of info on the net,i guess i'll never stop learning. home distiller has been a very handy place for info and i'll certainly be looking up queenslandhomebrew soon.

just a quick thanks to everyone that welcomed me or replyed to me on this forum.
finished stilling and filtering my first batch of alcohol.
it turned out great. i think it did anyway. the missus thinks it tastes like poison but she dosn't drink a lot of alcohol so what would she know.

post still hirns. i got some high activity spirit carbon that i thought i could run through something to use as a filter.
a bloke at work said he had some pvc he'd made into a filter with a tap fitting on the end, that he filled with charchol.
would the carbon work the same as charchol?
