I've got a foot in both camps on this one. I don't often rack as I don't find it necessary for every brew. On occaisons that I do its not really that much trouble and I only do it if I have added big chunks of things to the brew, and when I want to bulk prime. For example my last one was a Coopers ...

I was going to get one of the screw top containers from Bunnings but the scrooge in me said go for the pail, so I did. I drilled a hole in the lid for the grommet and air lock and a hole in the side for a lever tap, which I got from HBS. Works a treat for a racking container and have one in there at ...

Terry, the hot water's probably doing the sterilizing for you.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Besides, I would only rinse any sterilising agent off with tap water so whats the difference? In my opinion, it is better to wash away any nasties rather than just kill them which is why I don't ...

I don't use anything anymore. I have come to the conclusion it is a waste of time. I haven't used any sterilising agent for the last 6 months and have not had any problems. I give everything a proper clean with hot water and thats good enough. If there is a need for heavy cleaning after a ...

Definitely go all liquid malt. The taste is sensational. Add a bit of steeped grain if you like, a few hops (don't over do it) and off you go and a good yeast is essential. Couldn't be simpler and you get a beer creation all of your own. Definitely have a go at using the link that velophile posted ...

I made one of these about a year ago and has been the best brew I have made. I used the Brewcraft German Lager brew booster, no.70 I think. It was fantastic. Up until I made this I was never a big fan of Pilsner but made it out of curiosity. Definitely give it a go.

I generally use the Coopers PET bottles - in terms of bottling they make it easy. I have a couple of dozen various sized roll tops.

Cleaning - rinse after emptying with hot water and another rinse with hot water just before bottling. I don't use any sanitiser on my gear anymore and I don't have any ...

Before belaching, take the o-ring out and give everything a good scrub with some water and bi-carb soda using a chux cloth or similar - it is abraisive without scratching. It can get the boil overs off the stove and the ring out of the bath that the kids leave behind, a bit of mould should be no ...

Coaches always get the blame and rarely get the credit. Look at what happened to Eddie Jones and it was the coach making apologies after Souths dismal perfomance on the weekend. However, Guus is having a blinder. He'll probably an OAM out of it and the socceroos get the keys to the city or something ...

Thats a big call on the blue Terry. Cascade light about the best I have tried.

Yep, its a big call but I have had a sheltered life. I am generally OK with the Tooheys beer, except Red, that stuff is horibble. Anyway, Blue is better than Westend Light, but I also agree that Cascade is also a ...

I have recently done a Bavarian Lager and after 2 weeks in the botle was a bit flat. It's now at about 4 weeks and has a bit more carbonation to it but still too young to call. Sit and wait patiently.

I'm generally a light drinker either but when the occasion forces me to I reckon a Tooheys Blue is not bad.

I was at the footy on Sunday and had to drink light and they only have Hahn Premium Light. It was awful but couln't bear the queue to go back and get something else.

I am a big fan of Old but this wasn't always the case. My first one was on school muck up day and it wasn't good. Years later tastes matured and I have warmed to the loving embrace that Old seems to bring. Not much else to choose from on tap down at the club so Old it is.

Before I moved, I used to bulk prime at the rate of 180g per 22L brew and the results for me were consistent and the tcarbonation was just right for me. When I moved interstate I had to give away my racking fermenter to a friend and haven't replaced it so now I bottle prime. The results thus far ...

I have bulk primed in the primary fermenter only once. The end result was satisfactory but you will get a lot of frothing when you add the priming sugar, hence leaving it for a while to settle.

I have seen food grade containers in Bunnings in the camping goods section for $15 for a 25 or 30L ...
