2nd Hand crusted kegs

I just picked up nearly 20 kegs and all related equipment from a quickly-departing homebrewer. Problem is, he wasn't very good about cleaning the kegs after he drained them..... more than 3 years ago. Needless to say, the bottom sludge has turned into cement.

Before he left he was kind enough to ...

Re: Indian Pale Ale Recipe ?

I'm going to pick up the Thomas Coopers IPA kit and add 1kg LDME and some Safale yeast and probably 15-20gms of (Fuggles or Goldings not sure never used these before are they correct for this type of brew) hops and make it upto about 21ltrs in total, anyone got any thoughts on this recipe ?

I ...

Re: What have you brewed this year?

Running a little slow this year so far. Now that brewing season is finally here, I should have all three churning all the time...

Flying Donkey - Oatmeal Milk Stout
Stinky Britches - Dunkelweizen
Li'l Quickie - Aussie Pale Ale
Irish Stout
Ginger Beer
H-Bomb - Hazelnut Brown Ale
IPA
Lazy Dog Lager ...

Thought this thread was about total beer production for last year.
Just shows you.
Ask a bunch of guys " how big is it"
And they cant wait to show you!
Cheers Glenn

Hey, man, I tried. :) -

Perhaps you could post the recipe? In the appropriate forum, of course...

But if it helps....

chris -

Thanks much for the info - finding the hazelnut extract/syrup was hard enough for me out here. I found some online (with free shipping, no less) and finally came up with this recipe. Unfortunately, I'm still pretty new to the homebrew thing, plus I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no ...

Jamil's Choc Hazelnut Porter

chris, if you're still watching this thread...

I was working on a recipe for a hazelnut brown ale and came across your list of brews with the Choc Hazelnut Porter. I was wondering if you used a hazelnut syrup similar to the cordials used in coffees. If so, which ...

So I've changed the recipe a bit (is it normal to change a recipe mid-brew?).

I decided I really wanted the chocolate to come out in this but using baker's chocolate felt like cheating (plus, I didn't have any in the kitchen). So I ditched that and added some extra choc malt.

I was also ...

Yeah, Pat's really been a huge help with getting this recipe nailed down (as have all on this thread). I'll definitely be doing more business with him. But unfortunately I'm stuck with what commercial extracts I can find at Wooly's, Cole's, and KMart, which is basically Coopers, Cascade, and Tooheys ...

I made the Brigalow cider as one of my first HBs, and I was quite underwhelmed. Not at all what I was expecting. Lacked body and flavor and seemed very artificial.

I did experience that funny plastic taste before bottling and it did fade in time - lots of time. I just wrote it off as absorbing ...

Bout the 1.25l coke bottles, do you use new caps with them and what's the longest you'd leave them in the bottle for?

I've been using the 1.25l bottles (and 2.0, and 1.5, and 600ml) since just about the beginning. I just soak the caps that came with the bottles in the same sterilizer, rinse 'em ...

Getting back to the yeast culture topic....

How long is too long to keep a culture bottled, capped, and in the fridge? Days, weeks, months? Anyone with positive (or negative) experiences?

I brewed a batch in the middle of December, threw the sludge in a few capped bottles in the fridge, and ...

Thanks, Chris. I've been talking with Pat from Blue Mountains Brewing Supplies and he actually recommended reducing the IBU level by going with two cans of Dark rather than one Dark and one stout. He mentioned the IBUs from the tins alone would be at 92. Add the extra hops and it'll be one bitter ...

3 years, eh? Can't manage to keep a batch around for much longer than 3 months with the drinkers I've got here (mostly me). Thanks for your input, Greg. I should be putting it down this weekend.

Chocolate Imperial Stout

Looking for comments on my first attempt at adding grains to a brew:

220g total crystal, chocolate, and roast malt (steeped 30 mins)
1 can Coopers Stout
1 can Toohey's Old (or Cooper's Dark)
1 can Cooper's Bitter (or Lager, haven't decided yet)
60g unsweetened baker's chocolate
15g Willamette hops ...
