Re: Genetically modified ingredients in beer kits

Before you (DrSmurto) start lecturing me on how protocols on private emails to Coopers should or should not be phrased you jump to a lot of conclusions that are quite wrong. In parallel with my original post, I asked Coopers whether they used GM ingredients and if so, I would have to consider a ...

Re: Genetically modified ingredients in beer kits

I have since contacted Coopers and below is their reassuring reply - I don't understand the comment by drsmurto "A few too many ifs, buts and maybes in your statement." How else should I express a subject of this nature and how would you have posed the discussion so I could "learn" from my "mistakes ...

Genetically modified ingredients in beer kits

I have just looked up the iPhone app (Greenpeace) regarding genetically engineered (GE) ingredients used by various companies and it shows Coopers as a company that may use ingredients from GE crops. This comes as a shock to me as I always regarded Coopers as a company that was least likely to use ...

Coopers Australian Pale Ale + Enhancement

Did a Coopers ginger beer in my fermenter (too sweet!!) and later followed with a Coopers Australian pale Ale which I find so good and reliable. Despite cleaning the fermenter thoroughly as I always do, the beer had a small but noticeable ginger beer taste which luckily made it very interesting and ...

My observation is that most home brewers do not have the time/expertise to produce the perfect brew but end up most of the time with a quite acceptable drop. I find that people who sample my brews prefer them to the commercial Vic bitter what most drink in this state. Each time the brew will be ...

Whats wrong with Anti-bacterial solution as used to sterilize babies bottles? This works well and I rinse twice using a trigger hose (gives a high pressure rinse). Never had any problems and there is no sterilizer taste in the beer due to this sterilizing method.

Good thinking Morgs, I also have forgotten to unscrew the lid when bottling. Simply removing the airlock when testing and bottling is the way to go!

Unfortunately, you still have to unscrew the fermentor top as unless you do, the water in the air lock is sucked into the brew when you turn on the tap at the fermentor bottom.

Perhaps an increased risk of infection occurs when the fermentor top is unscrewed and the hydrometer is used to test whether fermentation has finished. This may be required to be repeated a few times before its ready to bottle as you cannot always rely on observing bubbles in the air lock to ...

Lower brewing temperatures and infections

I notice that the lower end of the temperature scale is recommended by all, however a lower temperature equals a much longer fermentation period with a much greater chance of infection. I have actually seen a recommendation for a brewing temperature of 9 deg for lagers (using Saflager yeast). As ...

:) Thanks for the replies.
Maybe I'll have to individually email each supplier and ask the question about their preservatives and additives as this will determine which ones to brew.

Preservatives and additives in home brew cans

I am wondering whether all brands of home brew cans are free from preservatives and additives. Coopers Australian Pale Ale specifically mentions on the can "No preservatives or additives" but I notice that other cans such as Tooheys Lager and Blackrock bitter make no such claim on the can. Does ...
