Timmy,
I put this one down a while back and while it was an Irish Stout Coopers Kit, I'm sure the regaulr Coopers Stout kit will work:

Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout Kit (or Coopers Stout)
1.4kg Dark Liquid Malt Extract - boiled @ 65 degrees for 60 mins
Chocolate Malt Grain (140g) - steeped 30 ...

Racking hose from Coopers Fermenter tap

Hi All!

I'm wanting to rack from primary to secondary, and use a Coopers fermenter as my primary...
Thinking the easiest way to do the transfer is to hook up a racking hose (tubing) to the tap...

Any clue on what size hosing I would need to fit in (or over) the Coopers tap?

Cheers!!

you know, just to add a different angle..
I brewed the Real Ale as per insturctions (with 1kg Brewing Sugar) and thought it turned out with a cider like taste... not real bitter, just sweet almost....

maybe it's a matter of taste, or maybe something went on (being the first batch) I wasn't aware of ...

Favourite Brew / Beer??

We all brew for one reason - because we love beer! Whats your favourite beer - whether its to brew or to enjoy!?

NOTE: of course there are so many specific types of beer - these are just very general options!!

Completely agree with all your comments.... Just fork out the few bucks for a priming bucket and would save potential dramas...

Just an aside - I'm over in the USA and have found homebrewing to be really relatively inexpensive.... Even just looking at a half decent priming bucket with spigot, set ...

Hi Chaps,

I put down an Irish Stout about a week or so ago, and its creeping up to bottling time :D
I've taken a few sneaky tastes, and this is the kind of brew you could drink straight out of primary so I'm a wee bit excited...

Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout Kit
1.4kg Dark Liquid Malt Extract ...

Priming in Primary Fermenter?

Hi Chaps,

Maybe stupid question, but I've been pondering it this afternoon...
In theory, could you add your priming mix (dextrose disolved in water) into the primary fermenter, mix carefully and then bottle directly?

I've read mixed reviews - some say this stirs up the gunk at the bottom too much ...

Irish Stout yeast

Hi all,

Just a quick one...
I used White Labs WLP004 (Irish Ale) liquid yeast in my last stout, and have kept the Coopers yeast that came with the kit Irish Stout kit...

Is this just a standard ale yeast, or one specific for the stout as it is stamped "IS" on the packet...

Cheers!!!! :)

The question I wanna ask is how much of these above extra stuff I want to try add them into, the Oats and Black Malts/Grains I should Add into my 3rd Stout attempt.

I have used the search method, still bit wee confused with some jargon used here, I have read some receipe said "steep"... what ...

Thanks rwh - that clears it up a bit!!
Too be honest, I just can't seem to get my head around it all - and am starting to think bulk priming may be the way to go!!!!

Thanks again mate...

Hi Chaps!

Put down the stout last week and already 5 days into fermentation its tasting nice (you gotta taste when checking SG right?? )

Now, I've done a search and do apologize if repeating, but I'm thinking about priming...
I'm not a bulk primer yet, so it's just me and the trusty ...

rwh wrote:Sounds damn good to me, only comment is that it's about 5%, might be worth chucking in 500g LDME if you like it stronger. The oats should be good, make a nice creamy head.
Ah, I forgot to mention I'll only be filling to 18L..... hopefully will assist with the 'chunkiness' of the beer.....

Hi Chaps,

Well, I've asked plenty of questions on here so would like to post my next brew to share (and for any comments! :D )

1x Can Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout
1.5kg Liquid Dark Malt Extract
150gm Chocolate Malt Grain (steeped 30 min)
200gm Rolled Oats (steeped 30 min) - too much?
Whitelabs ...

Aging in Keg?

Hi Chaps!

Well, a friend of mine has offered to let me install a bar top tap and keg system in his bar - for the homebrew of course!! :D
So, I'm going to jump in the deep end and move into kegging...

I think I've got the drift about carbonation (natural vs. forced), but one question I can't seem ...

Thanks chaps for all your feedback...

I'm in Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area) - even though I'm an Aussie, and the water quality is not too bad....
Again, on the first brew I rinsed in tap water and it doesn't seem to have become infected....

Think I'll experiment with the next brew ...

Sanitize / Rinse

Hi Chaps,

I did a search on this, but nothing came up quite what I was looking for so..........

I use the StarSans stuff to sanitize bottles... For my last batch, I soaked all the bottles in the sink with warm water and the solution...

However, when I pulled them out of the sink and drained them ...

Thanks for all the advice chaps...

One question - does anyone know roughly how many grams a teaspoon is - about 6?
Thus, a 1/2 teaspoon would be 3?

I'm putting down a nice Irish Stout next, and don't think I need a lot of carbonation...
I'm going to be using 22oz bottles (here in the States) which ...

Wow, that looks like a nice little recipe...
I notice in your own instructions you refer to the Pale Ale - does that mean you're not planning on using the IPA kit?

I just wonder that with all the hops probably in the Coopers IPA can, plus all the extra hops, if it would be a MAJOR hop overkill ...

Thanks everyone for all your input....
I feel like a bit of an idiot, but it turns out it just needed a LOT more elbow grease to get the caps sealed...

Bottled my first brew on the weekend, and put down about 10 glass bottles and the rest in the PET bottles provided in the Coopers kit ...
